About Us
Welcome!
My thirty-year-long conviction that writing can be good for those who write culminated in last year's inaugural Wellness & Writing Connections Conference. It is well-documented in the literature of several fields that wellness and writing can be connected in ways useful for emotional, physical, and spiritual health. Much of this work was pioneered and sustained by James Pennebaker and others, including Luciano L'Abate. Several years ago my passion in this area convinced me to establish this conference to provide a resource for those like-minded people who write and for those working in the healthcare and counseling professions who wish to include writing as part of their practice.
This year's conference features over thirty break-out sessions to choose from that will provide attendees with a wide variety of opportunities to learn about the connections between wellness and writing. Sessions include such topics as writing through grief, writing to heal, writing to manage depression, writing and poetry therapy, and writing for wellness and more. To support and augment the sessions, a book exhibit, managed by Barnes & Noble, will feature several books written by the speakers and many others.
I am proud to announce that our conference will be hosted by Mercer University on their beautiful Atlanta campus. Mercer University has earned a reputation for exceptional academics and for twenty years U.S. News cites Mercer as one of the top universities in the South. In fact, The Princeton Review named the university "the College with a Conscience." Mercer repeatedly ranks in the top 10 percent of all colleges and universities in North America. We are grateful for the invaluable assistance the counseling department has provided for our conference.
I am looking forward to seeing you at the conference!
Best wishes,

Dr. John F. Evans
