What is integrative health coaching?

Picture
Dr. Evans offers one-on-one health coaching either in person (for those in the Raleigh-Durham, NC area) or via phone, which ever is convenient for you.  Coaching engagements may take many forms, but commonly consist of six hourly sessions held once a week and focus on a goal of your choice.  These client-centered health coaching engagements may or may not include writing as part of the process, as jointly agreed upon.

The Wheel of Health at right, developed by Duke Integrative Medicine, is the foundation for Dr. Evans' health coaching model.  It shows the relationship between professional care with traditional healthcare provides and the self-care an integrative health coach supports.

Patient-centered

Imagine someone who is trained to listen deeply to your concerns, challenges, and goals for optimal health and well-being, someone who is steadfastly present, patient-centered, and supportive. As a trained professional in health behavioral change, the integrative health coach is there to lead you on your own path for health and wholeness.  Transformative and mindful, the integrative health coach represents a new approach to taking control of your physical, mental and spiritual health.

Empowering

Integrative health coaching is an empowering process that guides clients in defining their personal vision of optimal health, creating specific measurable goals and action steps to achieve that vision.

A Partnership
Integrative health coaching is a partnership where the client is in charge of their own health journey with a supportive, encouraging, resourceful guide on the side.

What can I expect from each of the sessions?

Sessions typically range from 45 to 60 minutes and occur over the phone.  For clients in the Raleigh-Durham area who prefer a face to face experience, Dr. Evans can meet in person at a mutually agreed location.  A coaching experience centers on a single focus area for a 6 week period.  An additional 6 week period can follow the first with the same focus or a different one, if desired by the client.

Coaches support and guide clients in the following types of activities during the sessions:

  • Creating an optimal health vision
  • Identifying values
  • Assessing current health
  • Choosing a focus
  • Exploring readiness to change
  • Setting SMART goals and weekly action steps
  • Preparing for action
  • Initiating actions
  • Assessing action
  • Maintaining behavior change
  • Building confidence

What are some examples of focus areas?

  • Movement, exercise, and rest
  • Nutrition
  • Personal and professional development
  • Physical environment
  • Relationship and communication
  • Spirituality
  • Mind-body connection

What are the fees for coaching?

While the standard commitment is one session per week for 6 weeks, coaching fees are agreed upon for a variety of time commitments and packages.  Dr. Evans' hourly rate is $125 per hour.  Six session packages are currently available for $600, payable at the first session by check, credit card, PayPal account, or cash.
